To North Cascades National Park
We aren’t sure why this NP gets so much less attention than Glacier and others - it’s pretty terrific and vey UNcrowded.
The scenic highway that cuts through the North Cascades is so beautiful, every turn a new geological wonder.
Took Josie out for a walk on little scenic footpath. Steve is not wild about high altitude walks of any kind, even when they include hand railings. But you know I’ve got to get my photos!
This park is a little strange in that you are not entirely sure exactly WHEN you are actually in it. Then you pass this sign, and I guess that’s it. The first beautiful lake we stopped to see was Ross Lake.
We thought that was beautiful enough, but then we came to jaw-dropping Diablo Lake. Indescribable! The color is real, due to glacial runoff. I was so glad we got to see it before the sun set behind us.
We tore ourselves away from the beauty somehow to make it to our campground which was right on that same lake, and enjoyed a nice dinner of lime and soy marinated chicken thighs on the grill with beans I picked from the garden before we left. Our idea of “camping”!
While I was cooking I was admiring this little watercolor painting we picked up when we were in Minnesota last summer visiting Uncle Steve. It’s an ice fisherman, so not very “camp-push”, but I just loved the colors and used them for the inspiration for how I decked out the van.
We really do feed Josie - she just wants what we’re having!
We played a magnet game Montana bought the other day and even took a picture as evidence that we fit 15 pieces in at once, an impressive feat if you saw the game. It might be even better as a cooperative game vs. competitive.
Then tea and movie time!
