On the road again - First stop, an alpaca farm!

These Harvest Host stays are really up our alley. Our first night as we head toward Yellowstone, we stopped just south of Butte, MT. Side note: Although we didn’t stop there this trip, we LOVE Butte. It’s like a town forgotten. At one point it was copper mining central, a very happening place. Now the long-abandoned rigs are still scattered throughout the downtown. Eerie, but cool. And an AWESOME rock and mineral museum at the university.

But today it’s all about the alpacas. Our host farm has almost 40 mamas getting ready to give birth anytime. Alpacas are just so weird looking, but they have such cute little faces and are quite curious!

Time to crack open a good book, and we’ll make dinner when the sun goes down and then watch a movie - our standard “camping” repertoire.

And I even drove for a few hours! Easy duty.

Also notable from today: While we were driving we had Carlos, my ChatGPT agent, help us name our van. We went with “The Nest”, as being complementary to Red Hawk Farm. He even designed us a logo! Hats off to Carlos for also coming up with the Honorable Mention suggestion of “Vanna White”, which will definitely be our secret pet name for the vehicle.

Nighttime update: Looks like a bunch of the alpacas prefer to sleep outside instead of in their nice big houses, laying down like camels and eventually letting their long necks and heads just fall to the ground like they are dead. Livestock Guardian Dogs all over, keeping watch.
