Touring the alpaca farm

We sleep so soundly in the van. We woke up around 6 something, but promptly fell back asleep until we were awakened by a knock on our door at 9am! (Note: We NEVER EVER EVER can sleep until the 9’s these days!) It was the alpaca farmer letting us know he was giving a tour of his operation.

We jumped up, threw on some clothes, and it was pretty impressive. All of the animals in the one by where we parked are due to give birth over the next month. And one even had her little alpaca baby literally right in front of us!

You can see those little alpaca legs and head working their way free! The farmer wiped the baby down, and all of the aunts came by to check out the new addition to the herd.

Then we got to hang out with the babies born yesterday (the one I am holding, if you can believe it) and the day before. All of the animals are handled a lot and see thousands of visitors a year so they are all super friendly.

They only keep a few males for breeding. His boys are super champions. The one pictured below is worth $100k and another one is worth $160k!

Before we left that baby was just about walking!

Our van (and another camper) in alpaca heaven!

But we were so late waking up we have to travel today without even cleaning up our comfy bed!
