This is getting ridiculous

But honestly - these recent Northern Light shows have just been so remarkable, there is no way NOT to photograph and post them!

We knew last night’s index was favorable for a sighting, but when we went to bed at 10:30 there was nothing to see. (This time of year it’s barely dark at that time. Love those long summer nights from living so far north!)

But we have Josie to thank for this one, because she started whining to be let outside at around 2am, and Steve caught the peak colors. The green was fully visible with the naked eye; the camera picked up a slight purple to the west. The full horizon behind our house was just an arc of being green. And streaks and shimmer of this night’s show were really something! I could not catch the full horizon and the streaks in a photo.

The first photo was the view from our bed. Steve wrapped us up in a big Pendleton blanket to watch the show from the deck. Wow! I hope all of these auroras don’t mean the end of the world is coming, but they really are something to see in your own backyard!
