New juicer

I love a good fruit smoothie, my favorite concoction combines frozen blueberries, plain Greek yogurt, a scoop of maple cinnamon protein powder, a spoonful of flax seed, maybe a handful of spinach leaves, and some vanilla protein drink all blended in the Ninja.

But I recently invested in a proper juicer, and I have to say I am impressed! The way this magic machine instantly sucks the juice out of fruits and veggies, leaving only pulp that is literally dry and crumbly is amazing. The model I bought has a large feeder chute and requires little or no prep other than maybe cutting very large apples in half and peeling any citrus (too bitter). Just pop everything in there whole. Leave those (non-citrus) skins on.

I am still experimenting with different recipes, but my favorite is a simple/most basic combo of apples and carrots. Tomato, carrot, and peppers is also pretty great. Didn’t like adding cucumber- too strong of a flavor. Haven’t tried a pure “green” juice, which many people love. Also don’t have any beets, but I know those will be great additions, too. Clean up has to be done quickly - before you even drink the juice - but I have that down to 2.5 minutes.

Chute on top; pulp-catcher to the left; juice pitcher to the right.

Had to hit up Costco’s produce department pretty hard for all of the experimental recipes!

Yum except scratch the cucumber.

Instant juice. Minimal foam.

The pulp that results is amazingly dry. I am still learning how to feed things in so you get fewer chunks in the pulp bin.

Does this look good to you? It tastes AMAZING. For me carrots are the key - I didn’t know I liked carrot juice so much!

This is what’s inside the juice above.

Crazy dry.

I feed some of the pulp to the chickens, but most of it goes to the compost (which actually needs more organic matter - when you have chickens they tend to eat all of the miscellaneous trimmings from cooking.) Montana is encouraging me to freeze-dry some of the sweeter (apple/carrot) pulp to make into a powder for an oatmeal topping, something I will definitely try!
