Grain master!

Our new automated grain mill arrived today! We are pretty excited about this (rather simple) little machine.

It’s a really beautiful appliance, bamboo wood with copper accents. The bowl has an adjustable knob to move from coarse to finer textures. Underneath are two stones that do the work.

The bulk wheat grain has not even arrived yet, so we assembled a few miscellaneous grain-like substances to test the new gadget out.

We experimented with steel-cut oats and quinoa, and then used rice to “clean” it (as recommended!)

Steve used our oat+quinoa+rice milled concoction to feed his sourdough starter. Apparently sourdough starts are not very picky about what they eat!

Quite a nice little baking counter is taking shape over by this window. Love the view of the garden beyond.
