Another phenomenal Wyoming museum in the middle of nowhere!
This state is just full of surprises. Southeast of Yellowstone and Grand Tetons in a little town called Debois is a 140,000 sq ft National Museum of Military Vehicles. It was created by a former medical equipment CEO who retired to Debois and thought it would be cool to have a restored tank that he and his wife could ride in the town’s 4th of July parade. Fast forward 500 vehicles and another $100M of his own money, and this museum is an incredible reality.
When Steve said we were stopping at a military museum, I didn’t expect much. I get it - we will see some tanks, akin to air and flight museums. But it was not just the scale but the absolutely jaw-dropping design of this museum that blew us away. The settings, the stories, the materials, the graphics, the backgrounds, the colors. There was WW I and I, of course, but also deep dives into the Korean and Vietnam wars. I am not even interested in military anything, but even I was enthralled. I took a zillion pictures, none of which do this place justice.
Like the museum in Cody last week, this is a destination in and of itself. Wow!
