Organization: My love language

Nothing makes me happier than to reorganize a closet, cupboard, or drawer. Even so, for some reason in this house I have never fully organized the kitchen to the level at which I’ve become accustomed! There’s plenty of storage, but over the past few years I have been losing my lifelong battle against the accumulation of countertop appliances and I just let it go. So while I assume this post will be of ZERO interest to anyone else except myself (especially because I neglected to take any proper Before pictures), just trust me - this was a super fun and very rewarding summer day activity!

Not “Before” images, but accurate “During” shots!

Garage freezer looking good! Best things we found were 4 bags of Trader Joe’s Kung Pao chicken (Steve’s favorite). Worst thing was a package of pork hocks, from a half pig we bought a few years ago. What even are they? I’m thinking maybe add to a soup pot? And I also realized that when we found what I THOUGHT were last summer’s cherries must actually be from summer 2023, because there was no cherry harvest last year due to the weather. Oh dear, I need to make some cherry pie NOW, because in about 2 weeks we will be picking more!

Side pantry looking good. You can see my impressive charger plate collection (Thank you, Hobby Lobby) and Steve’s egg stash money jar ($560 this year!) We really hate those wire racks, which are already buckling under the weight. But the strange angled left-hand wall makes replacement a little trickier. I still hope we do someday!

Cupboard pantry also looking good. This one tends to stay in pretty good shape throughout the year. Except of course that I cannot get Steve to replace spices in their correct alphabetical location in the spice tray. But we all learn to compromise. You can also see the large jar of dehydrated eggs that Montana made us. We are going to use these for our next batch of egg foo young - just reconstitute with a little water first and use just like a fresh egg!

You’ll have to trust me when I say that these drawers were DISASTER AREAS, all impossible to close, all containing tons of never-used junk, a few full of empty canning jars (that have their own places out in the garage, but you know that’s a long walk from the dishwasher.)
