Morning glory mystery

I planted five different varieties of morning glories on the trellises between the raised beds this year, the same place I do every year. But the only plants that have come up are NOT from any of those 5 varieties.

So I guess I will stick with last year’s supplier, Botanical Interests (they have cuter seed packages anyway, with little sketches instead of photos.) The two varieties I think that self-seeded here are called Grangpa Ott and Sunrise Blend. So I will try saving some seed from each of these colors this year and then probably buy a few packs of those old standbys. I really love the way they look on my trellises.

I know many people HATE morning glories for the very fact that they self-seed agressively and take over everything, but it seems that somehow many of my favorite flowers just happen to be rampant self-seeders (morning glories, borage, amaranth, calendula.) I guess that would bother someone if they had a carefully-planned set of beds, but despite my over-planning, I like to go with the flow when things actually grow!

I just let these guys sprawl out of this random raised bed, why not?
