Living the dream

What a dreamy first day in TRNP! The Park is broken into North and South units which are separated by about 55 miles. Weird, but cool. It’s incredibly expansive, prairies and badlands.

We decided to explore the South unit today, starting with the Painted Canyon overlook.

We loved the views from the top so much that we decided to take a REAL hike down into the canyon - VERY adventurous for us!

Our favorite geological formation of the day are these mushroom-capped pillars called hoodoos.

So much prairie!

We made it back!

Then we were treated to quite a surprise - wild horses! We watch them climb up a hilll, and then while we were visiting the prairie dogs around the corner, the pack of horses crossed right past us to graze in a grassy meadow by some bison. Heavenly!

We had an RV park spot reserved in town (you know how we love our showers), but we fell in love with this campsite in the park and had to snag it for the rest of our trip. My hammock chair was immediately called into action. The even had its own trailhead to the river bank.

My hammock chair is incredible. It is hand woven with the softest, strongest fibers. You can sit in it but also it is full and stretchy so you can lay in it front to back. So much easier and more flexible than a standard hammock.

Steve eventually made me vacate the hammock so we could explore some more. I reluctantly agreed (and was glad) - it was the perfect fall day.
