Hope, BC up to Prince George
Hope is the town where the movie First Blood was filmed, so of course we had to watch that for Friday night movie night. We also had take pictures of the very Canadian wood-carved statues of characters from the film in the main park downtown.
We had seen several water tank helicopters bringing big buckets water flying back and forth overhead the evening before, but it wasn’t until we headed out in the morning that we realized there was a fire burning in the mountain right above our campground! There were 2 aircraft working the blaze in tandem, dragging water out of a nearby river. They were able to drop loads about every 2-3 minutes. It was impressive!
The drive north of Hope was really gorgeous and seemed to change every few minutes. Lots of great geology and fantastic clouds. Even a few trains for Steve. It’s hard to believe all of these photos were taken on the same stretch highway!
Got to our campground just as a thunderstorm started up! Luckily with our awning extended we could still have the side door open with the screen across so we got the nice air flow while we waited out the rain and waited out the HP brown sauce (it’s like British steak sauce) cheeseburgers Steve promised for dinner.
We started the day with fire and got to end it with fire, too. Surprisingly, we were able to have a campfire in Prince George. We realize it did just rain pretty heavily, but we are so accustomed to never being able to have fires in the summer, this was quite a treat, one that we do not expect to repeat again on this trip. So we were sure to enjoy it.
