Home sweet home

After a few days of doing laundry and opening Amazon boxes containing things we realized we needed in the camper, we settled in today to spiffy up the property a bit. The weather was absolutely glorious, 72 and sunny, blue skies with just a few puffy clouds, an occasional light breeze - a day to be outside for sure.

I scrubbed out the chicken waterers (algae loves them), and the hens escaped while Steve and I were reinstalling them. They’ve been under lock and key (constrained to their fenced run) for at least 6 weeks, because we are still pretty nervous about this year’s aggressive predator action. So I was actually kind of glad they escaped today, because I miss seeing them roaming around, but not if it costs them their lives!

We had a few more plants to go into the garden and seed germination rates to check on. EVERYthing had to be mowed. I hand mow the garden, and Steve and Elijah share the fields with the fancy zero turn machine (which I absolutely cannot get the hang of.) Montana was busy with her rock garden area on the side of the house. I’ll have to get some pictures of that one of these days, it’s awesome.

Everything is looking pretty good. Even though most things have still just started their growing seasons, it’s so fun to see the place so green, knowing the July browning is inevitable!

The goats look so bucolic grazing in the back field, all 3 looking so nice and neat after Montana and Elijah’s first successful (albeit stressful) foray into shearing!
