A little Christmas jazz
Spokane actually has the longest continually performing community-supported jazz orchestra in the entire country, the Spokane Jazz Orchestra! One of my Whitworth colleagues plays piano for the SJO, so we try to catch a few concerts a year. They recently moved from a downtown theater to Gonzaga’s beautiful new performing arts theater, so it’s fun to have a reason to venture down to GU’s campus for the night
Despite brother Mike's substantial jazz talents, we never really understood the randomness that is jazz. But the pure joy these musicians exude, the way they really get into the music and each others’ solos, it’s just infectious. The concerts are light-hearted and fun experiences.
Tonight’s show was themed Motown Christmas, and it really was a blast More jazz cowbell!
