The new stove is here!

I took over the dinner cooking duties at the start of the year. My results have been fairly decent so far. I’m really enjoying doing the cooking, and one of the very BEST parts is that Steve HAS TO DO THE CLEAN-UP! Doing the dishes after dinner has been the bain of my existence, so I consider it a great trade. Plus I get to cook the kind of meals I like (sorry, no goulash here!) I have been leaning on some great Hello Fresh recipes, which are basically fool-proof.

But the very WORST parts has been our stove and oven. I cannot believe we have been living with this HORRIBLE unit for almost five years! There is only ONE decent burner, and NONE of the burners can actually produce a LOW heat. It’s like cooking on a really hot hot plate. Also, the oven door does not close (we have to wedge a hotel door security stick against the door to keep the heat in.) And there’s no light in the oven either!

So if I’m going to take on the cooking, I’m going to succeed of fail with good equipment! Enter the new and improved Jenn-Air! We had to stick with Jenn-Air because our set-up does not have an overhead vent, so we needed the downdraft system that Jenn-Air is famous for. I have no idea how I will manage with FOUR actual working burners to choose from every single night!

Bye, bye, good riddance!

I love how we didn’t even bother to clean it from last night’s dinner, knowing it was on its way OUT!

We thought the beast was screwed into the cabinets, but it turns out it was just wedged in there normally. You can see the downdraft system underneath.

While Steve supervised the action, I was in my nearby office doing Zoom screening interviews with the candidates for our new dean! It was only loud when they had to cut away 1 3/4” of the back of the granite.

OMG, a MEDIUM flame!

What luxury - A light in the oven!

What a thing of beauty - I’m sure my cooking quality will increase considerably!
