Storage unit upgrade
You know how we love storage solutions around here! We tested out having an external storage box on the back of the camper van to hold all of the “infrastructure” items so we don’t have to squeeze them inside. It’s a must-have now.
While the hitch-mounted shelf we tried from Cabelas did the trick just fine, it was a pain to have to remove the shelf+box from the hitch to open and access the back. Plus Steve had to use multiple ratchet straps to hold the box on the shelf. Again, it all worked, but we knew we needed (okay, wanted) to upgrade!
The new and improved model is an integrated unit (frame+box) that swings out of the way to access the back. So no more on and off and on again, no more ratchet straps all over the place. Also, this one has integrated lights and a license plate bracket. And it is still removable and has wheels (you use the hitch attachment as the “handle”) if you want to take it off. Plus the storage box itself holds a lot more, which I’m sure we will find a way to fill in no time.
We will give this new setup a test on our anniversary getaway next week!
After we finished the project, I ran out to get the mail. I returned to find Steve and Josie watching an episode of Gilligan’s Island in the van. Just look at those two. It really is a comfy little place!
