Putting a pin in 2026 travel
This year has been a travel mess, to say the least. None of our trips rolled out as planned. We canceled our big trips to the Sierras and Olympic National Park. We got smoked out in Canada’s Icefields Parkway. Our Nebraska trip logistics were a bit of a mess. We cancelled or shortened a few other things. It just seemed like every plan was somehow thwarted. Now we still manage to have fun cruising around in the camper van. But it’s been weird.
The disappointing results continued this weekend. Our fall antiquing outing in Snohomish was supposed to be 3 days of fall leaves and little antique towns. It started out great - we found a cool butcher in the Wenatchee Public Market. to source some steaks. But when we got to our campsite we realized we had the grill, but no propane or connector pipe. Hmmmm. Then we realized the battery that manages the refrigerator and freezer (as well as the heater!) was basically dying intermittently. Then the rain came, and we decided to pack it in after one night.
So after some pretty fun antiquing (my highlight: a gorgeous Missoni knit scarf) and a few relaxing historic Snohomish cocktails, I made some cinnamon roll mini waffles, and we hit the road back home, with college football to keep us company. Traveling anywhere in Washington state in the fall is, by itself, pretty spectacular, but we are just writing off Travel 2026 as a bit of a mixed bag! We have promised each other to get it together for 2027!!!
