Peach picking Friday
We have been trying to educate ourselves more about the different fruit varieties that are grown in our little community. Today we learned about Red Haven peaches. We went back to Roening’s, the old orchard where we picked those dark cherries last month. They have some pretty old trees (22 vs the normal 12-year lifespan of a commercial peach tree.) So the fruit was not as abundant, but it was still delicious! Ended up picking two flats (over 20 pounds), so I guess we will need to do some baking and preserving this weekend! We are going to experiment with freeE drying peach slices (why not) and also make a peach crumble, peach pie (with homemade crust, good luck to non-baker me), and also a few mini/hand pies. Tis the season!
