Little fire in the neighborhood
Yesterday we received an alert that our house was part of a Level 3 (“Go NOW!”) evacuation related to a fire nearby. It’s funny (not funny) how calm we are when getting such an alert. “Oh, must be a fire nearby, let’s take a look….”, but not really a big rush.
As it turns out it was a small fire that was quickly contained, and the evacuation was removed. Here is what it looked like on the app, and also here are a few views of how much of the western part of the U.S. is on fire at any given moment this time of year!
We are the blue dot. The fire was at the intersection we take as our “back road” way to get around on October weekends, because Green Bluff proper is wall-to-wall pumpkin and apple-seeking traffic. It’s about two miles from our house as the crow flies.
Just for context, our old house is on the little “F” road hanging down from the two diagonal squares south of the fire.
Just another late July day in the West!
I honestly don’t know what all the symbols mean, but the app is somewhat addictive once you see just how much wildfire activity there is.
The grays represent prior wildfires.
