Adios, Auf Wiedersehen, Exterior Project! Someone take that OFF the To Do list, for it is DONE!
Though Steve will probably fiddle with the stair set stain a little when he returns from OKC, maybe a quick sand/second coat, all of the remaining pieces of the job came together with one last early morning (5am-10am) push today.
The previously spicy deck stain debacle is a thing of the past - the properly prepared boards took the stain perfectly. And the previously unfinished house side of the new stair set was finished off beautifully this morning as well.
I was nervous about this project from the start. First, the monochromatic paint color idea was a new idea, courtesy of Cathy our paint color consultant. She nailed it. Second, I wasn’t sure whether wrapping the front posts in cedar would add the little pop of depth I was looking for, but it is perfect. And I’m honestly glad we weren’t wrapping ALL of the posts in this crazy house, because apparently finding cedar boards in Spokane is impossible and expensive. Third, I was super unsure of the stain color. How do you take three completely different types and conditions of wood and make one stain color look cohesive. Not only do the railings, porch floor, and new stair set all fit together (without being “matchy”), but the dark oak color PERFECTLY complements the roof, the one part of the house we were NOT touching!
Congratulations to us. It took a month to pull off, but we had a FANTASTIC crew who made sure everything exceeded 100% of our expectations - we didn’t have to compromise on a single thing. WE ARE DONE!
Time to put everything back on all of the porches. Then on to the NEXT project….

It looks a little red here, but it really isn’t. Just a nice darkish oak.
I don’t remember if I posted this previously or not, but this is how they left the staircase the day they built it. My response: I don’t know how it’s supposed to be, but that’s not it! So….
They finished that properly today!
