July garden check-in

Despite one particularly perplexing zinnia bed that has been planted twice and doesn’t seem to want to grow (no idea why - the irrigation has been checked and rechecked), everything is coming along nicely out in the garden. We are just entering into our hot, dry, waterless summer, so hopefully most plants have gotten a good enough start that they can weather the desert conditions ahead!

I need to get out my plant tracker so I can keep track of what varieties actually blooming once it starts, which should be soon. I put in a lot of experimental varieties of calendula (marigold), zinnia, and cosmos- should be interesting.

That barrel in the middle is Montana’s tarragon - it’s literally a tree!

I love this crazy bulb that has grown twisted up in a little decoration made out of spray-painted model railroad tracks.

Look at all of that yummy thyme in the herb circle.

Hi bee - keep those lavender plants going!

Corn and sunflowers mostly over here.

The veggie trellis is growing very slowly - it’s not on the irrigation system, and for that reason gets very little water. Note for next year.

Right to left: Waterwise perennials; squash/zucchini/mini sunflowers; zinnias and celosia; red amaranth, corn, cosmos, and sunflowers.

Pretty soon our trellises will be covered with morning glories again.
