FINAL garden tasks

I almost didn’t make it to the end of the fall garden clean-up tasks this year. The drizzly weather started, and we typically have our first snow by now. I almost ran out of steam. But since today was an overcast, but pretty mild November day, I bit the bullet and gave it one last hour to finish the remaining small jobs. Compared to last year, when I basically abandoned everything and had quite a mess in the spring, this was a big accomplishment!

Steve used his new machete to cut down the remaining aramanth stems by the sunflower rows. The roots will still have to be pulled out in the spring, but they will have broken down quite a bit by then.

The earlier planted cover crops are doing great - they had plenty of time to establish themselves and are quite green.

Winter wheat in a raised bed.

More winter wheat in the ground near the new trellises.

Daikon radish cover crop. These were some of the very first beds to be covered.

The later ones just barely germinated, but more than I feared they would. Enough to give them a little weed protection and extra nitrogen.

The latest bed, barely got any winter wheat to germinate. But still something.

The two front flower beds were the latest radishes to be planted. Pretty spotty, but overall not too bad.

The herbs in the center circle were all trimmed down, trimmings ready to cart away to the compost. The poor garden goose is now all exposed (her soggy, dirty summer clothes had to go in the wash.) I will be hitting Amazon in a few minutes to order her up a proper winter outfit.

We can only cart the compost down when the goats are in their paddock-otherwise they just make a mess of things and attack the cart (and me!) mercilessly, thinking it is full of goat food (when really they don’t want any of this.) So we have to stage it by the gate for later.

Garden perennials still offering some late-fall color.

Gorgeous asparagus ferns.

Strawberry bed.

Crabapple trees are honestly the most beautiful 4-season trees I know.

Meanwhile, video evidence that Josie dog is recovering nicely!

Good dog!
