Bye-bye, baskets
One of the few, utterly clear goals to which we have always aspired to was having a porch full of vibrant, overflowing, hanging baskets. This year’s baskets, procured from Whitworth’s landscaping department, NAILED IT! I could have photographed those beauties every single day of the summer and fall, they were such a source of constant joy and color. They even hung in there for two weeks after losing their water source (we had to blow out those irrigation lines when the nightly freezes start).
I’ve already put my order in with my Whitworth landscaping buddies for next year, though you never know who they will be able to procure from and whether their selection will match this year’s Outstanding Achievements in Hanging Baskets. Thanks for a great year!
Now it’s off to the compost with you!
“Zee-zee” hanging out under the last day of basket blooms.
We start with a big pile of dead/dying baskets.
Underneath is a heavy-duty wire basket lined with coconut husk.
After the 4-prong black light wire hanger is removed, we saw the soil ball is lined around the sides with a very light plastic. We didn’t even know that was there. This allowed it to drain through the bottom, but not dry out along the sides.
My baskets next year will come with their own hangers, but Montana will probably want to use these for her back porch hanging menagerie plantings next year.
Big Red called into duty.
The compost thanks us for all of this green matter and dirt!
Now I guess the only color we will get until spring will be the skies and trees!
