Babies trying out the big girl roosts
Yesterday afternoon some of the baby chicks discovered the big birds’ ladders and roosts inside the coop and decided to hang out on them for awhile. I love how they look like, “Yeah, this is my spot”, very satisfied. But I knew that within the hour, as the older hens start choosing their roosts for the night, the babies will all be booted (or just frightened from all the activity, it even scares me!) back down to the main floor.
Soon enough though, they will start holding their own. Which is good because their little brooder is too crowded, they’ve grown so big so fast!
This is how they all crowd onto their little dowel roosts inside their brooder at night. They can still go under the yellow heater, but only a few choose to do that. Birds-eye view with the top lid raised, with flash.
